| | | Overview |  | You could call it the jewel in the crown of God's own country. You could call it the union of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala – that gave it its name Munnar (meaning the confluence of three rivers). | | | Getting There | | By Train
The nearest prominent railway station to Munnar is at Kochi that is connected to other cities and towns by the railway network. Some key express trains that link Kochi to the rest of the country are Kerala Express, Trivandrum-Chennai Mail, Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Express and the Trivandrum Rajdhani Express. You could also reach Munnar from Ernakulam, another major junction in Kerala that connects to other parts of the country.
Other railway stations nearest to Munnar are in Theni (60 kms), Kottayam (145 kms), Thiruvananthapuram (300 kms), Madurai (160 kms) and Changanassery (114 kms).
By Air
The nearest airports from Munnar are in Madurai (140 kms) and Kochi (130 km). The latter is an international airport that links the resort to other major cities from across the world. You could alight at Kochi and reach Munnar by road – a pleasant 4 hour journey takes you to your destination. The journey from Madurai to Munnar is slightly longer and takes around 5 hours.
Other airports closer to Munnar are in Coimbatore (167km), Kozhikode (287km) and Thiruvananthapuram (302km).
By Road
Munnar is around 140 kms from Kochi and it would take you 4-5 hours to get there by road. Forests, waterfalls and pleasant scenic spots decorate the way as you get closer to your destination. An extensive network of well-laid roads connects Munnar to other major cities and towns. State Transport (both Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments) and private buses ply with regularity between Munnar and these places. |
