21 kms south of Jeori, Sarahan was once an important market for traders of neighboring regions. An attractive town, it has a pheasant breeding center nearby. The bazaar is interesting: friendly villagers greet travellers; shops sell flowers, bright red and gold scarves and other offerings for worshippers among local produce, fancy goods and jewellery, while numerous tailors shop turn out garments for villagers around.
How To Reach :
The nearest railway station and airport are at Shimla, 177 km away. By car, Sarahan is 6 hours from Shimla. The route is on NH22 upto Jeori, from where the road bifurcates to Sarahan. Sarahan is 17 kms from Jeori on this road.

It is the base for numerous treks and is the gateway to Kinnaur. It is a place of pilgrimage, a haven for nature lovers and the temple complex attracts a variety of admirers. Here is a place that offers an 'out-of-the-ordinary' travel experience.
Retreat in Sarahan is set in an apple orchard with a view of the majestic Shrikhand Peak.

Bhimkali Temple Complex
This is Sarahan's main focus and its weathered walls enclose approximately an acre of temples, old residential quarters, courtyards and a small recently created museum.
Gaura (37km)
This is a picturesque village well known for it's delicious apples.
Darang Ghati
This valley is a 1.5 hrs drive away from the retreat and takes one on a beautiful drive through thick forests to provide some very scenic views.
Treks :
Sarahan forms the base for several treks. The most popular of these is the trek from Sarahan to Sangla. The best times are mid-April to mid-June and mid-September to mid-October .
Sarahan to Sangla
Sarahan – Old Hindustan-Tibet Road – Wangtu in 5 days.
Day 01 | Sarahan-Chaura | 14kms/4-5hrs | Easy walk to reach Chaura, the first village on entering Kinnaur. Overnight camp at an altitude of 2100m.
Day 02 | Chaura-Taranda | 15kms/4-5hrs | Walk to Taranda through hilly terrain. Taranda is named after the local goddess Taranda Devi. There is a temple dedicated to the goddess on the highway which is a must visit for any devotee passing by. Camp at Taranda at an altitude of 2200m.
Day 03 | Taranda-Ponda | 14kms/4-5hrs | Camp at an altitude of 2200m at Ponda.
Day 04 | Ponda-Nichar | 15kms/5-6hrs | Slight uphill walk to the beautiful sub-valley of Nichar . Camp at an altitude of 2300m.
Day 05 | Nichar-Wangtu | 8kms/2-3hrs | This is an easy downhill trek to Wangtu, once a popular destination on the Old Hindustan Tibet trade route. A bridge at Wangtu connects the National highway on both sides of the Sutlej River . The old bridge which was damaged in a major flood has now been reinforced with a new bridge constructed by the Army. Wangtu also used to be the last checkpost after which the Inner Line used to begin, before it was moved to Jhangi.
From Wangtu one travels by road to Sangla (approx. 40 kms).
