The Park was founded in 1936 and was called Halley's Park.Subsequently in 1955 the name of the park was change to Jim Corbett National Park in honor of the Late Edward James Corbett,the legendary hunter-naturalist turned author and photographer who helped in demarcating the Park's boundaries. The park is spread over an area of 530 sq.kms and has approximately 138 Tigers, 650 wild Elephant and a healthy population of deer Family. Which includes Sambars, Cheetal and Kakar. Apart from these one can occasionally spot the Indian Bison 'Gaur',Sloth Bear, The Himalayan Bear,Python and wild Boar. Corbett National Park is also a bird watcher's paradise with approximately 600 species of birds to its credit. It also is a haven to a variety of migratory birds during the winter months.
