The Enchanting Backwater Resort Aesthetically developed on the shores of the Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom Lake Resort has been bestowed The Heritage Resort status. The property has been exquisitely landscaped with numerous canals meandering in and around the 22 cottages reconstructed over the 10 acres of picturesque greenery overlooking the stretch of the lake. Each cottage pertains to traditional style of the illams (homesteads) and have a legacy. The cottages have been painstakingly plucked from various villages in Kerala and transplanted. Guests can explore the backwaters on transformed kettuvallams (traditional rice boats converted to cozy houseboats) even spending a whole night on the lake. Right on the bank of the lake is the swimming pool with a jacuzzi enclosure - a real magical viewing spot of the lake and horizon. Ayurmana, the 200 years old nalukettu (four sided mansion) provides ayurvedic care and yoga sessions. The fabulous ettukettu (eight sided mansion) restaurant serves some lipsmacking Native, Indian, Continental and Chinese gourmets. A fully equipped conference hall provides for corporate holiday meetings. For a feel of the traditional performing arts there are renderings of Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Koothu .... BACKWATER BACKDROP
ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL A traditional ambience has been successfully affected at the resort to reproduce typical Kerala architecture in all the buildings. The interiors abd exteriors have an abundance of resplendent woodwork from carved lattices to doors and furnishings. The cottages have been assambled from around forty, age old houses dismantled from various corners of the state. Inside the cottages are mural paintings of scenes of Lord Krishna with Gopikas, the Mahabharata and replicas from various churches and palaces in Kerala.
Kerala's Ayurvedic lifestyle has a profound influence on the food habits and procedures of cooking. Abundant resources for vegetation, water and paddy suffice the culinary habits of the land.
A typical kitchen serves an array of dishes for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner, accompanied by some sweet refreshing desserts. Milk and milk products are used in abundance. The Ettukettu restaurant is the right place to satiate your gourmet needs with some native delicacies. It is recommended to taste some of the delicacious preparations with meat and fish especially, the delicious Karimeen Pollichathu and the fleshy, spicy Chemmeen (Prawns) curry. AYURVEDA
