Zhanjiang, China
Zhanjiang, a major
port on the south-western coast of China was leased to the French
in 1898 until World War Two. Today, it still serves as a French
base for oil exploration projects in the South China Sea. The
main tourist attraction is Crater Lake with its numerous intriguing
caves, as well as a 800-year old temple. Visit the Oceanic Museum
where there are over 900 items carefully collected from the coastal
waters around China. Zhanjiang is also an ideal centre for volcanic
research and studies.

Sanya,
Hainan Island, China
Located on the
southern-most tip of Hainan Island is the lovely seaside city
of Sanya. Sanya enjoys a mild tropical climate with abundant sunshine
with colourful flowers in bloom throughout the year. Reputed to
be an excellent resort city, Sanya attracts thousands of visitors
all year round to its beach resorts. One can also find some of
China's most beautiful pearls in Sanya where pearl cultivation
is an important industry.

Danang, Vietnam
Formerly known
as Tourane under French rule, it was the most important port in
central Vietnam during the 19th century. It was also the landing
point of the Americans during the Vietnam War. Today Danang is
the fourth largest city in Vietnam offering many fascinating cultural
and historical places of interest such as the Cham Museum, Cao
Dai Temple and Ho Chi Minh Museum. Popular tourist spots are the
pristine beaches at China Beach and the cave temples of Marble
Mountains.

Xiamen, China
The beautiful harbour
city of Xiamen off China's southeast coast boasts of a long and
colourful history dates back to some 3000 years ago. The city
offers extensive and varied sightseeing experiences - from thousand
year old Buddhist temples to fortresses. Here, one can enjoy its
subtropical climate and picturesque mix of mountains, sea, caves,
parks, and historic mounments. It is also the cultural and academic
centre of Fujian Province. Xiamen is today one of China's most
vibrant cities with many thriving industries.
