The
camel, ship of the desert, has an important part to play in the life
of people in Rajasthan desert and an encounter with the sand dunes
of Rajasthan atop this stately beast is an enthralling experience.
Mandawa, located in the heart of the Shekhawati region, is an
ideal getaway to get a feel of the desert.
Delhi-Mandawa
Morning
drive to Mandawa arriving by lunch time. Check into hotel. Afternoon
tour of the "Hawelis" famous for their frescoes. Hawelis were
homes of the Marwari trading community who displayed their immense
wealth by building elaborate mansions. Overnight at hotel.
At
Mandawa
After
breakfast begin a six-hour camel safari for Dhakas, a Rajasthani
hamlet on the sand dunes, at a distance of about 18 km. Arrive
camp. Evening explore the nearby villages. A relaxed evening around
the campfire enlivened by the rhythm of dances performed by the
locals. Overnight in tented accommodation.
Mandawa-Delhi
After
an early breakfast we start out on our second leg of the camel
safari, about a six-hour safari to Khotia, another hamlet. Picnic
lunch at Khotia. Drive back to Delhi.
