A ten day carnival showcasing best of India's art and craft, Taj Mahotsav is a gala event held every year in the month of February (from 18 to 27 February). With gorgeous Taj Mahal as backdrop, and best of the art and craft forms on display the event is an extravagant affair that catches all eyes. The festival showcases vibrant shades of Indian cultures by featuring finest of Indian art and craft forms. Every year the festivities celebrated are also blended with a message for the world making Taj Mahotsav in Agra a significant pedestal for evoking awareness. In the year 2009 the theme attached to this carnival was that of 'Sulah Kul' i.e. Universal Peace and Harmony.
The festival commences with a stunning procession of ornamented camels, elephants along with folk musicians and dancers performing on the rhythmic sounds of drums. This festival works as a great platform for artisans to display the ancient forms of Indian art. Albeit the exquisitely carved marble objects catch most eyes at Taj festival in Agra other forms of crafts are also equally applauded. Visitors can indulge in gorgeous crafts of India that are displayed here which includes- handmade carpets from Badohi, brass and metalwork objects from Moradabad, silk sarees from Benaras, Chikan work attires from Lucknow, wood carvings from Saharanpur and more.
