Sravanbelagola is famous for its 17m tall monolithic statue of Lord Gomateshwara, also known as Bahubali. The city got its name from its world famous statue as Sravanbelagola means Monk on the hill. The statue symbolizes renunciation and victory over worldly desires. The main festival of the city is Mahamastakabhishekam which is celebrated once in 12 years.
