Jakhoo Hill/Temple

The temple is dedicated to the monkey god, Lord Hanuman. The town's highest peak(2455 m) Jakhoo temple is a vantage point for Shimla's famous views. The summit is crowned with a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The hill is full of paths and narrow roads which are enjoyable walks. The Jakhoo temple is found at a height of 2455 Mts. Hanuman, to whom the temple is dedicated, was the most essential aide of Lord Rama. The hill of Jakhoo where the temple is located is the highest peak around Shimla. The word Jakhu is derived from Yakhsa which has mythological importance. The view of sunrise and sunset is downright breathtaking. The legend associated with the origin of temple is about the well known fight of Rama and Ravana. To save the life of Lakshman, the brother of Lord Rama, a precious herb was required which was found in Himalayan range only. Hanuman couldn't find the particular herb and took the entire hill which was later known as Jakhoo.
