Palace on Wheels travels across some of the most significant destinations in Rajasthan. Each destination included in the itinerary is meticulously selected to offer you the best of Rajasthan. These were the erstwhile princely states ruled by the maharajas in the past and some of them still reside in their resplendent palaces although the title nowadays is merely ceremonial.
The Palace on Wheel itinerary includes tours to Jaipur, Udaipur, Swai Madhopur, Jodhpur,Jaisalmer, Bharatpur and Agra. Some of the major attraction of this royal itinerary includes the Amber Fort, Taj Mahal, Ranthambore National Park and Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary.

The train derives its name from the royal background of its coaches which were originally meant for the travel of the erstwhile rulers of the states of Gujarat, Rajputana and Nizam, as also the Viceroy of India. As the coaches were very opulent and richly traditional, they were not being used by Indian Railways post-independence. The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation in conjunction with the Indian Railways conceived the idea of luxury train travel and it was in 1982 when the maiden tour of Palace on Wheels was flagged off. In 1984 a new meter gauge was introduced for the Palace on Wheels and the train had 13 saloons with 4 service coaches. In order to further enhance and modernize the amenities on the train, in 1996, a new train was constructed with broad gauge conversion with 14 saloons.
The train with 14 plush coaches is adorned with period furnishings to transport you in the world of royalty mixing them with the modern-day state-of-the-art amenities onboard. The coaches are named after erstwhile Rajput states namely - Kota, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Alwar, Sirohi, Kishangarh, Bundi, Dungarpur, Bharatpur, Jhalawar and Dholpur - each evoking the memories of royal realms. The period furniture, classic paintings, wall fixtures, colorful drapery, wall-to-wall carpeting, well stocked bar, and dining cars (Maharaja and Maharani) - all make the Palace a heaven on earth.

Terms & Conditions - Children less than 5 years can travel on 10% of the tariff without bed. Half fare (of the total cost) for children between 5 and 12 years of age. Age proof of children at the time of issuance of tickets is to be furnished.
- A surcharge of 10% to be levied on all Christmas(25th December) and New Year(1st January) packages.
- Service Tax @ 2.58% will be levied on the tarrif .
- In addition to the tariff, USD 15 per pax will be charged against the payment of commercial taxes.
- Tariff is subject to change without prior information.
Tariff includes
Travel, catering, conducted sightseeing, entrance fee at monuments/parks/palaces, cultural programs, camel ride at Jaisalmer, boat ride at Udaipur, rickshaw ride at Bharatpur
Tariff does not include
Drinks, tips, laundry, telephone calls, video camera fees, business car facilities, liquor and other items of personal nature.
Booking Policy
In case of fully independent travelers (FITs) - 20% of ticket value at the time of confirming the booking
- Remaining 80% of ticket value 60 days prior to departure
In case of Groups - 50% of ticket value at the time of confirming the booking.
- Remaining 50% of ticket value 75 days prior to departure.
Cancellation Policy
The cancellation of tour must be intimated by Fax/email/snail mail to The Palaces on Wheels. The refund rates to be based on the number of days left for the departure of the train:
In case of FITs - 60 days before departure - 95% of ticket value will be returned
- 30-59 days before departure - 80% of ticket value will be returned
- Less than 30 days before departure - 0% of ticket value will be returned
In case of Groups
• 60 days before departure - 90% of ticket value will be returned
• 0 to 59 days before departure - 0% of ticket value will be returned
