Keylong is the main town of Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of 3350 mts above the sea level, it is surrounded by a number of small villages. Together they are the main source of agricultural produce for the entire district. Barley, buckwheat, and potato fields are spread beautifully over the hills. There is a strong influence of Tibetan culture because of the region's proximity with Tibet.
By road the distance from Manali is 115 km. Due to heavy snowfall the Rohtang pass remains closed from Taxis are available from Manali, HPTDC also plies regular buses to Leh via Keylong during season. Nearest airport is Bhunter. 175 km from Keylong. The nearest railhead is at Jogindernagar, 250 km away.
