Following Footsteps of Ramayana is an extended tour to the places related to epic poem Ramayana in Sri Lanka. The trail takes you to the places where the mythical events of Ramayana supposedly took place. 8-days long tour itinerary comprises of visits to numerous holy shrines the erstwhile places where gods and goddesses stayed, jungles that they trespassed, ponds and hot springs where they bathe and other significant sites. Envisage the events of the holy text unfolding right in front of you as you traverse through these sacred destinations. This tour will attract both devotees of Hinduism and adventure lovers.
Day-By-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival –Negombo Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and then proceed to Negombo. Afternoon city tour includes visit to Hindu Kovil at Sea Street.
Day 2: Negombo- Koneshwaran Temple – Negombo Morning excursion to Chilaw and see Manavari Lingam and Koneswaran Temple. Return to Negombo, en-route visit to Sri Muneswaram Hindu Kovil.
Day 3: Negombo- Pinnawela – Kandy Morning drive to Kandy. En-route visit Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela. In Kandy visit the temple of the tooth relic, lake, upper lake, Kandy Market area, university area & botanical gardens in Peradeniya.
Day 4: Kandy- Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple – Gayathri Peedem – Nuwara Eliya Drive to Nuwara Eliya today. En-route visit Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple and Gayathri Peedem. O/N stay in hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 5: Nuwara Eliya- Hakkagala – Seetha Amman Kovil – Divrumpola Temple – Kataragama Temple On sightseeing tour visit Hakkagala, Seetha Amman Kovil and Divrumpola Temple. O/N stay in Kataragama.
Day 6: Kataragama- Rumassala – Seenigama Temple – Colombo Visit Kataragama Temple. En-route travel through Dondra, Seenigama and Hikkaduwa. Drive towards Colombo and pay en-route visit to Rumassala.
Day 7: Colombo Visit the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple followed by Colombo sightseeing tour.
Day 8: Colombo- Departure Transfer to airport for onward flight.

| | | Day 1: Arrival –Negombo |  | Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, meet our representative awaiting just outside the arrival hall, past the customs area & currency shops. Later you will be driven to a hotel in Negombo for overnight stay. In the hotel our representative will brief you about tour starting the day after.
Afternoon in Negombo brings a sightseeing tour and you will be directed towards a holy site, a Hindu Kovil at Sea Street. Here you can attend a Pooja Ceremony to invoke blessings. | | | | Day 2: Negombo- Koneshwaran Temple – Negombo |  | Post breakfast head for an excursion to Chilaw Town. Visit the Manavari Lingam, situated approximately 10 km from Chilaw. This was the first lingam and worshipped by Lord Rama himself before he began making a bridge over the sea. After this visit you will be driven towards another holy site, the Koneswaran Temple approximately 12 kilometers from Chilaw town. One of the richest and most visited temples in Asia, the temple is situated atop Swami Rock, a rocky promontory that overlooks Trincomalee harbor. Return to your hotel in Negombo and pay an en-route visit to Sri Muneswaram Hindu Kovil, which attracts visitors from all over Sri Lanka. Back in Negombo stay at your hotel and relax for the night.
| | | | Day 3: Negombo- Pinnawela – Kandy |  | In the morning post breakfast you will be escorted to Pinnawela for an escorted tour of the Elephant Orphanage. An orphanage and breeding ground for wild elephants it was established in 1975 on a 25 acre of coconut plantation. In the year 2008, it was inhabited by 84 elephants; one can observe the bathing elephants from a distance as the giant animal play and bathe in the rivulet. Later in Kandy visit a spice garden today to see different spices and to know how some of these spices are grown and processed.
Next you will be directed to the shores of the picturesque lake in Kandy; also take a stroll around Kandy Market area and bag some souvenirs. Visit the university area & the botanical gardens in Peradeniya to complete your Kandy tour. In the evening witness a show of cultural performances. In the evening you will be directed to a hotel in Kandy for overnight stay. | | | | Day 4: Kandy- Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple – Gayathri Peedem – Nuwara Eliya |  | | In Kandy today visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic; Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple which is known for its age old belief that whoever holds the relic of the tooth of Buddha holds the governance of the country. Next you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya. Famed for its temperate climate, picturesque landscape and tranquil environs Nuwara Eliya is also known as “Little England”. En-route to Nuwara Eliya you will be visiting another site related to Ramayana, the Sri Baktha Hanuman temple at Ramboda. A massive figurine of Lord Hanuman here is 16 feet tall. In the afternoon do a sightseeing tour of Nuwara eliya. visit Gayathri peedam. It is believed to be the place from where King Ravana’s son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance and pooja and in return he was granted super natural powers by Lord Shiva. Return to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya for overnight stay. | | | | Day 5: Nuwara Eliya- Hakkagala – Seetha Amman Kovil – Divrumpola Temple – Kataragama Temple |  | After breakfast make an excursion to Hakgala Botanical Gardens. Make an excursion to Hakgala Botanical Gardens. The ‘Rama-Sitha’ epic also raises very concrete evidence about Goddess Sita being held here in Ravana’s custody and spending her leisure time at this spot where she used to long for her husband and home. Visit the Seetha Amman Kovil. Sitha Amman Kovil is located about 1km away from the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. This temple is believed to be the the spot where Sitha, was held captive by her abductor, King Ravana.
Later visit the Divurumpola Temple; situated 20 kilometers from Seetha Eliya this temple is present to mark the place where Sitadevi, after her liberation from King Ravana offered herself to fire as a test to prove here chastity. Return to Nuwara eliya in the afternoon. Evening will be free at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Kataragama. | | | | Day 6: Kataragama- Rumassala – Seenigama Temple – Colombo |  | | After breakfast visit Sri Lanka’s largest and most patronized Hindu Temple, the Kataragama Temple. Pilgrims from all over Sri Lanka, come to worship here. Attend a Pooja ceremony to invoke blessings. While driving towards Colombo en-route explore regions of Dondra, Seenigama and Hikkaduwa. These are the places from where Sugreeva King of the Vanara’s started his onslaught on King Ravana’s forces. Also visit Rumasala in Galle an important site mentioned in Ramayana. Rumassala hill is visible on the drive to Colombo. Evening at leisure in Colombo. Overnight stay in Colombo. | | | | Day 7: Colombo |  | | Today proceed for an excursion to Kalubovila to see the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple. This is the first Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka and also the only Panchamuga (five faced) Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka. After this visit you will resume your drive to Colombo next and on arrival check into a hotel for overnight stay. Make a sightseeing tour of Colombo. You will be taken around numerous historic, religious and cultural sites for a complete picture of the region. Begin the journey on a pious not and visit a beautiful Buddhist and Hindu Temple first. Next on the city tour you will be visiting Pettah; a neighborhood famous for its beautiful open bazaars and markets is ideal for going for souvenir hunting. Also explore the imposing Fort and Galle Face Green, a walk on this promenade by the seafront will be a very rejuvenating experience. Final visit will be to Independence Square, a national monument it was built to commemorate the independence of Sri Lanka from British rule. Stuff your bags with trinkets from the shopping malls of Sri Lanka, such as House of Fashion, Odel, Arena, etc. Evening will be at leisure you can go clubbing or choose to shake a leg in discotheque for a memorable night. | | | | Day 8: Colombo- Departure |  | After breakfast our representative will pick you from the hotel to get transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport. At the airport our representative will make all your arrangements in advance to ensure you have a comfortable journey back home.
