Bijapur also known as ‘The Agra of the South’ is located in the northern part of the state of Karnataka in the southern region of India. The Chalukyan rulers of South India, between the 10th and 11th centuries laid the foundation of this town.
The city is well known for the great Mughal architectures of historical importance was the capital of Adil Shahi dynasty. Bijapur is best known for its magnificent ‘Gol Gumbaz’ which is the second largest dome in the world and other historical buildings, including the Jumma Masjid, which has been called one of the first mosques in India. The ideal time to visit here is September - February.
